The Event – first impressions

Filed under: Review, TV Shows — Stephen L. Thompson @ 3:58 am

Enh.

A complex, multi-layered story can be good if there is a natural connection between the subplots.  If two or three subplots are just jammed together for the hell of it, that’s not good.  A chronologically jumbled story can be good if the jumble is done in an artistically interesting way.  If it’s jumbled just to keep the audience guessing, that’s not cool.  I fear “The Event” may be in the not cool category.  Basically, I need something in the next episode or two.  I don’t need to know the whole Event, just some facet of it.  If I still have no idea what manner of event the Event was after a couple of episodes, I’ll probably stop watching because it will probably mean the show is an “we won’t explain anything until the last five minutes of the finale” type of show, and I don’t care for those.  If that is the case, I’ll wait until after the show is done and look it up on Wikipedia to see what the Event was.

Klingon opera? Really?

Filed under: Odds, Review, TV Shows — enjoyingscifi @ 1:52 pm

I first saw this on Space.com, an article about “u” “the first opera ever to be completely sung in” Klingon.  Here’s a rehearsal (?) video I found on YouTube:

My reaction was, “Really?  You do that, now?  Talk about striking while the iron is room temperature.
